Rural Oriented Youth Movement-Nepal (ROYM-Nepal) is a national non-profit making non-governmental national level organization established in 2009 which envisions a socio-economically empowered society with equality and social justice through its community based collective campaign to create an environment where marginalized groups can raise their voices for economic, cultural and social rights challenging the structural discrimination. It aims at reducing poverty through skill transformation and youth engagement. ROYM-Nepal supports the country in achieving the long-term Sustainable Development Goals on human rights, health, education, gender equality, water, sanitation, environment, social protection, justice and impact of climate change. In more than a decade of its working experience, ROYM-Nepal has been successfully carrying out different community-based interventions and socio-economic programs under WASH, skill promotion, self and gainful-employment, women health, and socio-economic empowerment in 16 districts of Nepal. ROYM-Nepal is currently looking for the application from qualified candidates for the following positions:
1. Position: Senior Program Coordinator (Climate Justice Thematic Lead)
Based in: Kathmandu
Required Position: 1
The Senior Program Coordinator (SPC) takes lead role to manage the overall climate justice programs of the organization and works in close coordination with and in supervision of the Executive Director. The position will closely work with other staffs of Kathmandu and concerned district offices in achieving the objectives of ROYM Nepal. This position will be for 2 years (including 3-month probation period) with possibility of extension having annual review/renew. She/He is mainly responsible for project management of enhancing the advocacy, holistic capacity building and overall management of community-based climate resilience building through climate change adaptation and mitigation measures. SPC will lead the program development, management and oversight of related ecological justice programs linking with the role of environmental human rights defenders/activists in the province and management of different trainings and workshops at district, province and federal level with proper planning, implementation and quality management, documentation, stakeholder communications and coordination with stakeholders. She/he oversees the national level programs in integrated approach including monitoring and tracking all activities that have specified deliverables. SPC will be responsible to oversee managerial and financial procedures, liaison with government counterparts and other stakeholders at federal, province and district level and work closely with the district and province Offices to assure technical and operational management and quality control. SPC reports directly to the Executive Director and works in close coordination with Admin and Finance Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the climate justice programs with monitoring, evaluation and tracking all specific activities and projects that have specified deliverables.
Enhance the networking and allies of young environmental/climate activists from community to national levels and enhance their capacity with inter-generational knowledge management approach.
Provide and facilitate technical advice, capacity building, information-sharing and fundraising support.
Promote ROYM’s human rights-based approach as the basis for rooted programs, projects, policy development, campaigning and working with social movements
Develop and implement the project operating guideline, training guideline/manuals for capacity building sessions for enhancement of climate resilience capacity of communities.
Establish organizational monitoring and evaluation system; provide support to develop and apply different monitoring forms/formats and tools for program/project monitoring.
Analyze the relevant external developments (eg. UNFCCC, food sovereignty, agriculture and forestry, energy) and occasionally facilitate collaboration with co-working organizations and networks for shared impact.
Make field plans and carry out overall coordination at national level and organize the thematic sessions and capacity building trainings.
Organize and conduct systemic meetings, review the quality of the work with the team of Kathmandu on a regular basis to ensure the quality and standards.
Review, prepare and submit periodic and final reports of on timely manner to funding partners.
Strengthen and maintain relationship with various units of federal governments, non- government organizations and various networks that work promoting climate action, human rights and social justice.
In coordination with government agencies, I/NGOs and civil society organizations and make organizational representation to and participate in various alliances, networks, forums and meetings and trainings.
Facilitate for and maintain proper documentation of cases, success stories, initiatives/works of the organization, also ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured.
Work in close coordination with district offices to establish systems for overall management including administration and finance management.
Provide support and ensure effective implementation and institutionalization of the policies, rules and regulations of organization.
Manage and coordinate staffs, consultants, and volunteers according to the established policies, regulations and practices of the organization and provide managerial support for performing assigned responsibilities effectively.
Required Experience, Skills/Qualifications
The candidates should have Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Climate Change, Social sciences including Development Studies, Rural Development, Environmental LAW or related fields with at least three years of related work experience in similar field.
Have knowledge and work experience on climate smart agricultural practices, corporate controls and solutions; food sovereignty; environmental and human rights defenders; National Adaptation Plans (NAPs); LDCRP, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs); climate finance; climate-induced loss and damage; humanitarian response etc.
Have strong coordination skills with governmental and non-governmental organizations, authorities and agencies.
Experienced in networking, advocacy, lobby and campaigning skills with rights-based approach.
Good interpersonal, internal, and external communication skills and program/project management.
Command in computer application and good in Nepali as well as English languages.
