The Association for Rural Development (ARD) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 1992. It focuses on education, community development, environment protection and climate change, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), disaster response, and social justice for marginalized communities especially women, children and youth. ARD works with local and international partners, prioritizing participatory and sustainable practices to create impactful change.

The vacancy opened is of Emergency Aid Program for Landslides and Flood Victims in Bethanchowk Rural Municipality supporting disaster-affected individuals in Bethanchowk. It provides humanitarian aid, psychosocial counseling, renovated water and sanitation systems, and restored school infrastructure to ensure safety and resilience. Join us in the program which is working to emphasizes community sustainability, and recovery.

For this program, we are searching for:

Field Technician (3)

Education:

  • Overseer engineer degree in Civil Engineering or related fields.
  • Specialized training or certifications in water resource management or sanitation systems are an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing sustainable water supply and sanitation systems in rural or disaster-affected areas.
  • A strong portfolio of projects showcasing expertise in WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) systems.
  • Experience working in disaster response or humanitarian aid projects is highly preferred.

Skills:

  • Advanced technical skills in designing water intake systems, pipelines, and sanitation facilities.
  • Proficiency in using engineering software for modeling, design, and project management
  • Knowledge of WASH guidelines, international safety standards, and environmental sustainability practices.
  • Familiarity with climate-resilient construction techniques and eco-friendly materials.
    Project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.

Responsibilities:

Water and Sanitation Infrastructure:

  • Design water supply systems, including intake structures, pipelines, storage tanks, and distribution networks, ensuring accessibility and sustainability.
  • Assess the extent of damage to existing water and sanitation systems caused by disasters and prepare reconstruction plans with estimated cost plans.
  • Oversee the construction, installation, and renovation of water and sanitation infrastructure, ensuring quality and compliance with national and international standards.

School Infrastructure Renovation:

  • Conduct technical assessments of damaged school buildings, focusing on classrooms, playgrounds, boundary walls, and sanitation facilities.
  • Design and supervise the renovation of critical school infrastructure, such as:Restoring and upgrading sanitation facilities, including toilets.
  • Constructing water supply systems in school premises to provide safe drinking water.
  • Clearing debris and ensuring the structural integrity of playgrounds and access roads.
  • Collaborate with field coordinators, project managers for technical solutions.
  • Train local technicians, community members, and school management committees in maintaining and operating renovated infrastructure.

Project Duration: 7 months

Salary and Benefits: NPR 30,000 + accommodation
