Vacancy Announcement: 

Sahakarmi Samaj (SS) is an NGO established in 1997 to promote self-sustainability and empower disadvantaged communities in Nepal. SS operates in 12 districts across Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim Province, known for its innovative community development approach called "Facilitation for Empowerment and Social Transformation (FEST)." In collaboration with FASTENAKTION Switzerland, SS will implement the SAMMAN (Concept of "Samman" which involves recognizing an individual's inherent worth, value, and rights, and treating that individual with dignity, honor, and consideration) Project to empower Dalit communities in Narharinath Rural Municipality and Sanni-Triveni Rural Municipality of Kalikot District. The project aims to enhance community engagement, organizing, and agroecological practices for a dignified life for Dalits in Nepal.

The SAMMAN Project focuses on a people-led approach, empowering Dalit communities and individuals to drive positive change and advocate for their needs. By involving community members in decision-making and solution implementation, SS values their expertise and fosters sustainable change. Through strong community organizations and their networks, the project emphasizes people-led agroecology, promoting sustainable farming practices that align with ecological principles. By prioritizing indigenous knowledge, practices, and collaboration, the project aims to enhance food sovereignty, resilience, and social justice in the community. Through community mobilization and agroecological practices, the SAMMAN Project seeks to create a more resilient and equitable food system that prioritizes the well-being of people and the planet. By centering on community voices and experiences, the project aims to build a sustainable and just food system for all. 

Position: Project Coordinator - 1

Job Location: Project Office Kalikot (Possibly in Sanni-Triveni Rural Municipality)

Report to: Program-related reports- Executive Director and Program Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Coordinator

Supervising to: Senior Community Educators, Community Educators, Agroecology Technicians

Working relationship: Admin and Finance Team, Agroecology Officer,  Program Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Coordinator, Program Partner Organization

Coordination With: Program Partner Organizations, Concerned government line agencies, Local  Government, I/NGOs, SS learning partners, SS training partners, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:The project coordinator has a vital role in overseeing and managing the implementation of a community development and agroecology project. Lead and manage the SAMMAN Project to achieve program goals within the allocated budget and timeframe. Their responsibilities include:

  • Planning and Coordination: S/he project coordinator is responsible for developing project plans, timelines, and budgets. S/he coordinates with team members, stakeholders, and partners to ensure the smooth implementation of the SAMMAN project.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: The project coordinator monitors the progress of the SAMMAN project, tracks key performance indicators, and evaluates the impact of the project on the community and environment.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: The project coordinator engages with community members, local government, NGOs, and other stakeholders to build partnerships and ensure the project meets the needs of the Sahakarmi Samaj. Maintain close coordination with Palika, local government agencies, and civil society organizations to facilitate resource leverage and collaboration with local farmers, community groups, and networks.

  • Capacity Building: The project coordinator provides training and support to SAMMAN project staff and community members to build their capacity in agroecology practices and sustainable development. Implement the program in a gender-sensitive and inclusive manner, promoting women and disadvantaged group leadership within the groups.

  • Reporting and Documentation: The project coordinator prepares regular reports on project progress, challenges, and achievements. S/he also ensures proper documentation of project activities and outcomes. Participate in Sahakarmi Samaj’s promotional activities and foster a healthy working environment with Sahakarmi Samaj staff and stakeholders.

  • Risk Management: The project coordinator identifies potential risks to the project and develops strategies to mitigate them. S/he ensures compliance with regulations and ethical standards.

  • Monitoring and Quality Assurance: The project coordinator plays a key role in ensuring the successful implementation of a community development and agroecology project by effectively managing resources, engaging stakeholders, and monitoring progress toward project goals. Oversee all program activities and check the quality of program delivery as per SS values and standards. Ensure the quality of the related community organizing and agroecology training manual and effective facilitation.

  • Building Collaboration and Relationship: Maintain positive relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders, representing the program in various forums and meetings in the respective Palikas.

  • Ensure Compliance of Project and Organization: Ensure the implementation of Sahakarmi Samaj's safeguard policies and code of conduct with the staff team and stakeholders. Regularly update the Executive Director on project activities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Executive Director

Competencies: Basic Requirements for the position include:

  • A Bachelor's degree in community development, social sciences, law, management, agroecology, or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of program management experience, is required. Candidates with experience in community mobilization and agroecology will be given preference. A Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience is preferred.

  • Experience working with remote communities, managing teams, and agroecology projects.

  • Proficiency in proposal writing, result frameworks, theory of change, monitoring, and evaluation.

  • Experience in coordinating advocacy, campaigns, and promotional activities with various stakeholders, including the media.

  • Willingness to reside with community members and travel frequently to communities.

  • Ability to develop and implement program strategies, and work plans, and manage budgets and staff.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a respect for marginalized communities.

  • Non-dominating, non-discriminatory, and encouraging attitude towards community members.

  • Fluency in Nepali and English, both written and spoken.

  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office applications and project management software.

  • Excellent facilitation skills for participatory training, workshops, seminars, and interactions.
