Context:

Project context and Scope

Joint Recovery Action Plan (JRAP) is a joint Programme of the United Nations agencies in Nepal developed to support long term recovery and reconstruction of 2023 earthquake affected communities in Karnali Province.  The shelter component of JRAP is being supported by IOM Nepal. The shelter-related interventions planned through this project will enable communities to access shelter assistance packages and provide socio-technical support to households rebuilding their homes. The project will empower the affected and vulnerable populations to become agents of recovery in rebuilding their homes and communities and reduce future risks. The aim of the shelter-related interventions planned through this project is to support the Government of Nepal in creating an enabling environment for long term recovery and reconstruction of affected communities.

Core functions / Responsibilities:

Tasks to be performed under this contract

  1. Visual Content Development: The consultant will be responsible for creating high-quality graphics, infographics and illustrations for reports, presentations, brochures, newsletters and social media. Additionally, the consultant will be assisting in the creation of visual content for video productions and multimedia presentations.

  2. Content Creation: The consultant will develop engaging written content for social media, websites, newsletters and other communication platforms that complement the visuals. This includes writing compelling narratives that highlight project achievements and milestones, while ensuring that all content is culturally sensitive and tailored to the target audience.

  3. Branding and Consistency: The consultant will be tasked with developing templates and style guides to standardize visual content creation, to maintain a cohesive and professional look for all communication materials, reinforcing the project’s identity and credibility.

  4. Event and Workshop Support: The consultant will provide support for events, workshops and training sessions by creating visual materials that enhance the overall presentation and engagement.

  5. Reporting and Documentation: The consultant will collaborate with the communication team to present data in a clear and visually appealing manner. This will involve designing layouts that make complex information accessible and understandable, contributing to effective reporting and stakeholder communication.

  6. Collaboration and Coordination: The consultant will work closely with the JRAP project team and stakeholders to gather content and provide regular updates on content creation and design activities. The consultant will also participate in regular meetings and discussions to stay informed about project developments and priorities.

  7. Innovation and Creativity: The consultant will be encouraged to explore new ways of presenting information and engaging the audience. By staying updated on trends in graphic design and digital communication, they will bring fresh ideas and innovative approaches to the project’s communication.

Performance indicators for the evaluation of results:

  • Approach and methodology for developing, designing and promoting graphic and content materials, including design and content creation techniques and methods for ensuring quality and impact.

  • A clear and detailed work plan with timelines and milestones for the development and delivery of graphic and content creation outputs.

  • Evidence of relevant projects, particularly those related to graphic design and content creation for disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, response and recovery.

  • Ability to create visually appealing and innovative designs that effectively communicate the project’s message.

  • Proficiency in using graphic design software and tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other relevant software.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education/ Experience/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual arts, fine arts, or a related field. A master’s degree will be an added advantage.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in graphic design, content creation or a similar role, preferably in a development or humanitarian context.

  • Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), and video editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.

  • Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory and layout techniques

  • Strong writing and the ability to create engaging content.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing strategies.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating creativity and originality in design, by showcasing a variety of design styles and innovative approaches to content creation.

  • Understanding and respect for cultural differences and the ability to create content that is culturally appropriate and sensitive to the context of Western Nepal.

Languages

  • Fluency of English and Nepali is required (Verbal and written)

  • Working knowledge of any other local language is an advantage.
