Peace Corps Nepal places American Volunteers in nine-month, one-year, or two-year assignments in rural villages and peri-urban locations across the country.

The United States Peace Corps seeks an Environment/Eco-tourism Program Manager
(EEPM) to serve as a personal services contractor based in Kathmandu.

Period of Performance: This personal services contractor (PSC) position is a time-limited position not to exceed 60 months. The PSC contract has a base period of performance of one up to 12-month period, followed by a up to 4 12-month option periods for a total period of performance not to exceed 60 months. Each option period will be based on funding availability. Based on funding availability and program need, the position may also be extended beyond the initial 60-month contract.

The Environment/Eco-tourism Program Manager will:

  1. Project Management Lead: Working under the responsibility of the Director of Programming and Training, supports the projects under his/her responsibility in compliance with Peace Corps procedures and guidelines. Participates fully in the development of the annual budget and program plan for the Country Program as it relates to the Environment/Eco-tourism program areas.
  2. Technical Training Lead: Takes lead on designing and implementing technical training during Volunteer Pre-Service Training (PST), In-Service Training (IST), and Mid-Service Training (MST). Oversees the contributions of resource Volunteers, Technical Trainers, and resource experts at PST and ISTs. Identifies and manages the resource needs of the PST and IST.
  3. Volunteer Support: Serves as the environment and eco-tourism focal person and provides technical backstopping support to Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs). Carries out continuous PCV/PCRV job performance assessments and provides technical advice and personal counseling as appropriate.
  4. Stakeholder Relations: Initiates and maintains close liaison with relevant Government of Nepal Ministries; other Government offices at the federal, provincial, and local levels; and other organizations working in related fields. Maintains lines of communication and correspondence (in host country official language(s) if – appropriate) with host government and host agency officials.
  5. Safety, Security, and Well Being: Collaborate closely with the Safety & Security Manager (SSM) and medical staff during site identification trips and field visits to ensure minimum housing standards and health requirements are met and assist in gathering any background information necessary in the process of determining the safety, security, and well-being of Volunteers.
  6. Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other duties or assignments, when deemed necessary by the Country Director or designee, for the successful implementation of Peace Corps program(s) and/or operations in Nepal.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education: University Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environment/Tourism or related field, plus a minimum of FOUR years of related work experience.
  2. Prior Work Experience: Minimum of 4 years of related work experience, preferably with American or other international organizations, and preferably organizations that achieve their mission through volunteerism. Related work experience to include: managing volunteers or staff, managing environment and/or tourism projects, grassroots community development, designing training programs and/or workshops, training
    session design and delivery, monitoring and evaluation.
  3. Language Proficiency: Fluency in both English and Nepali (written and spoken) is required, as is an ability to quickly and accurately translate from Nepali to English, and vice versa.
  4. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education: A Master’s Degree in Foresty, Environment/Tourism or a related field.
  2. Experience: 2 years’ experience in supervising or coordinating staff or Volunteers
  3. Language Proficiency: Ability to speak other languages spoken in Nepal is desirable.
  4. A strong knowledge of international development through Volunteering.
  5. Ability to successfully network on behalf of the Program.
  6. Experience partnering with individuals with marginalized social identities (caste,  ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, and so on) in Nepal.
  7. Experience navigating language and culture in a rural village community setting in Nepal.
