Forum for Rural Welfare and Agricultural Reform for Development (FORWARD Nepal), founded in 1997 works in the fields of food and nutrition security and livelihoods diversification, business promotion and market development, adaptive research and development, natural resource management, climate change and disaster risk management with multisector partnership and collaboration.  It has been awarded a project entitled "Empowering Youth Entrepreneurs through Appropriate Horticulture Interventions in Nepal (YUVA Project)” under the USAID Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Horticulture, managed by the University of California, Davis. The project is being implemented in a joint consortium, where FORWARD Nepal leads the project, while Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Nepal is a consortium partner and provides co-funding. Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) of Nepal and the National Farmer Group Federation (NFGF) are collaborators. YUVA project also works/coordinates in close collaboration with local governments for policy support and provisions to establish and promote horticulture enterprises.

The project's objectives are to identify, test and establish appropriate horticultural enterprises that contribute decent employment and income opportunities to the Nepalese youth (women and men).

Project period: till June 2026.

Project locations: Buddhabhumi Municipality, Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City and Sandhikharka Municipality of Lumbini Province.

Therefore, FORWARD Nepal invites applications from competent and committed Nepali Citizens for the following position.

Position: Principal Investigator (PI)/ Project Leader

Duty Station: FORWARD Nepal Head Office, under its overall management structure for coordination and consultation with project partners, thematic experts and reporting. Frequent field visits are essential for project implementation, monitoring and coordination with the local governments.

Job Purpose:

The Principal Investigator (PI) is responsible for overall designing, planning, implementation, monitoring and result measurements and providing strategic direction to ensure the project team are working in line to accomplish the objectives and targets as stipulated in the project document while meeting reporting deadlines with quality together with the knowledge product development. 

S/he will also coordinate/consult with project stakeholders to facilitate effective project collaboration/partnership and administration (human resource, financial management) to ensure the sound health of the project.

Eligibility:

  • Masters in agriculture preferably in horticulture or agriculture economics/agribusiness Or equivalent, with a minimum of 7 years of experience with 3 years in research. PhD candidates with relevant experience in the required field will have an additional advantage. Since this is a research project for development, the incumbent must have a good idea of action research and fit for the field visits and be committed to work for the remaining period of the project.

  • Salary and benefits will be according to the provision of the project.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who can commit to joining the project on short notice.

  • A motorbike/vehicle license is desirable.
