ANSAB Nepal Vacancy Announcement for Forest Officer
ANSAB is a civil society organization that has been working for biodiversity conservation and livelihoods improvement across South Asia for three decades. It places community empowerment and economic incentives at the heart of its approach, and has been consistently evolving, consolidating, institutionalizing and advancing the approaches and strategies for the promotion of community-based enterprises and value chains, natural resources management and biodiversity conservation, enabling policy environment and multi-stakeholders.
ANSAB is currently seeking qualified, dynamic and result oriented persons for the following positions for a project entitled "Scaling conservation of Himalayan plants and Fungi through sustainable trade", funded by the UK Government through Darwin Initiative, to be implemented in ten Himalayan districts of Nepal.
POSITION: FOREST OFFICER
Duty station: Taplejung; Gorkha; Dolpa; Rukum-East; Jumla and Mugu; Humla & Bajura; and Darchula and Bajhang
Duration: 5 years, with six months' probation period

The forest officer is responsible for the efficient and timely execution of the project activities at district/s level. S/he will look after 1 to 2 of the above-mentioned districts, and will work under and report to Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Liaise with district line agencies viz: Division Forest Offices, Park Offices, FECOFUN district chapters, NTFPs traders, trade associations, harvesters etc. for effective implementation of activities;
Organize and facilitate different surveys, assessments, researches, workshops, trainings and meetings in the district/s, including the exposure visits. Conduct if necessary;
Support and mobilize experts while conducting resource inventory of identified NTFPs;
Collect district level production and trade studies of selected NTFPs;
Capacitate and mobilize Forest Technicians, Social Mobilizers and Local Resource Persons (LRPs) within the district/s;
Analyze the gaps in CFUGs with respect to FairWild Certification standards, and facilitate responsible supply chain, traceability, equitable benefit sharing, and workers health and safety.
Coordinate with CFUGs to (i) deliver trainings on organizational governance, sustainable harvesting, sustainable forest management to meet certification requirements; (ii) support to prepare and implement different management plans; (iii) provide technical support to identify, asses and manage high mountain herbs; and (iv) form sub-committees as required;
Provide support to existing and potential entrepreneurs on enterprise development, business skills, marketing, certification and associated document-management.
Qualification and Skills
Minimum B.Sc. in forestry or related field with three years' experience or Masters' with one-year relevant work experience in forestry or related field.
Knowledge on community forestry, resource inventory, NTFPs and certification;
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills in English and Nepali;
Good computer skills including MS package and GIS mapping;
Motorbike riding skill with valid driving license.
